We embrace the world
The International Committee strengthens the international engagement of YMCA and YWCA Denmark by connecting young people to the global YMCA and YWCA movements. It ensures that international perspectives and partnerships are woven into the organization’s activities, creating opportunities for young people to experience and engage with the world.
Beyond supporting global exchange programs, partnerships, and international volunteer opportunities, the committee also works to bring the world closer to children and young people in Denmark. Through visits from international guests, cultural events, and global-themed initiatives, it helps expand young people’s horizons, fostering mutual learning, solidarity, and a deeper understanding of global issues.

The international committee consists of a number of different programs, each with a different focus. Each of these programs plays a vital role in ensuring that global engagement is a core part of YMCA and YWCA in Denmark—both by creating opportunities for young people to explore the world and by bringing global perspectives into local communities for different age groups.

The Ukraine Network
YMCA-YWCA Denmark’s Ukraine Network plays a key role in supporting YMCA Ukraine through fundraising, development aid, and youth-led initiatives. Since the war began, the network has facilitated donations, organized relief efforts, and strengthened partnerships with local YMCAs in Lviv and Lutsk. A major focus is empowering young people affected by the conflict, offering training programs, community activities, and capacity-building projects to foster resilience and hope for the future.
In 2024 The Ukraine Network’s started the project “Voices of Defenders” - a partnership with YMCA , where young veterans and war-affected youth can reclaim their voices. Through storytelling and workshops, participants are invited to reflect on their experiences and share their perspectives with the world. The project creates a space for personal expression and mutual recognition for an often-overlooked generation shaped by war – both in Ukraine and across borders.
